Yalıkavak, Bodrum: a bioclimatic pergola on a sea-facing villa terrace
The brief
A sea-facing villa terrace lives with the strong Aegean sun and the afternoon wind. The goal was to create shade all day without blocking the view, and to keep using the terrace when a sudden shower comes.
The solution
We installed a bioclimatic pergola whose louvres rotate on a motor up to 105°. The dark anthracite finish matches the villa's façade and sits like a slim frame in front of the view. At midday the louvres close to create shade; in the late afternoon they open to let the sea breeze in.
Why a bioclimatic pergola?
A fixed awning or glass roof would have cut either the view or the airflow on this terrace. A louvred roof offers both in one system: closed, rainwater runs through the channels inside the louvres to the posts; open, the sky is visible. The system is calculated for a 50 kg/m² wind load and can protect itself with wind and rain sensors.
