Kalamış, Istanbul: a bioclimatic pergola on a roof terrace overlooking the marina
The brief
A roof terrace overlooking Kalamış marina, in direct sun all day and open to the wind. The goal was to keep the view as it is while turning the terrace into a shaded space in summer and a sheltered one in winter.
The solution
We installed a white bioclimatic pergola with a glass façade. The white finish keeps the penthouse's bright feel, and the slim profiles do not cut the marina view. Shade is set gradually with the louvres, while the glass façade closes the space on windy and cool days.
What matters on roof terraces
On roof terraces, wind load and fixing points matter more than at ground level. At the survey we checked the fixing surfaces and drainage, and the system was calculated for a 50 kg/m² wind load. For glass façade options, see our guillotine glass page.
