A glass-roofed winter garden heats up quickly in summer sun. Sky Zip is a motorised roof screen fitted under the glass roof, with both edges zipped into the rails; it blocks sun and UV and opens and closes by remote. We cover its benefits, limits and care.
Why a roof blind?
A glass roof brings daylight and sky views, but in summer the midday sun comes straight through and the space heats up fast. That is the best-known drawback of winter gardens. The fix is a screen under the roof.
What is Sky Zip?
Sky Zip is a motorised zip screen for the roofs of winter gardens, glass roofs and pergolas. Zips on both fabric edges lock into the side rails, so the fabric stays taut on a flat or sloping roof without sagging.
- Opens and closes by remote to any position.
- Blocks UV and provides shade.
- The zip structure gives a long life and low maintenance.
- Several fabric and frame colours.
Limits and disadvantages
- Fitted under the glass, so some solar heat still passes the glass; plan ventilation to release hot air under the roof.
- Motorised, so it needs proper wiring.
- Fabric and rails need occasional cleaning.
- In heated winter gardens without humidity control, condensation can form on the roof; this is about the room's humidity, not the blind (heating guide).
Zip screens for the sides too
Combine Sky Zip on the roof with vertical zip screens on the sides. Vertical zip screens withstand winds up to 120 km/h and are made up to 4500 × 3000 mm per screen. All our systems carry a 2-year warranty.
