For a bioclimatic pergola to keep working smoothly, it needs regular servicing. The pistons and rails are checked once a year, and systems among trees and greenery need servicing more often. We list what you can do and what the service checks.
Why regular maintenance?
A bioclimatic pergola is a moving system: the louvres rotate, the motor runs, pistons and rails carry load, and the gutters drain water. For continuous, trouble-free use, the system needs regular servicing. A well-maintained system runs more quietly and lasts much longer.
Once a year: service check
- Pistons: on the piston model, piston movement and connections are checked.
- Rails: alignment, cleanliness and fixings are checked.
- Motor and belt: the condition of the motor and the T-10 timing belt that drives the mechanism.
- Louvres and bearings: full opening and closing, quiet running of the 628 ZZ stainless bearings.
- Gaskets and gutters: EPDM gaskets in place, drainage clear.
- Power lines: the electrical lines feeding the system must be checked. Unstable voltage can damage the electronic boards that control the motor and sensors. We recommend adding protection on the line (a voltage protector, a suitable fuse) where needed.
- Sensors and remote: rain, sun and wind sensors, LED lighting and remote.
More often among greenery
In gardens, among trees and greenery, leaves, flowers, pollen and dust build up in the gutters and between the louvres much faster. These systems need servicing more often; we recommend checking the gutters especially during leaf fall and at the change of seasons.
In winter: moisture and ventilation
If the enclosed space is heated in winter, use air conditioning, a fan coil or a dehumidifier and run the louvres at about 5° in ventilation mode. Otherwise condensation forms on the roof panels because of the warm-cold contact. More in: how to prevent condensation.
What you can do
| When? | What to do |
|---|---|
| At the change of seasons | Clear leaves and dust from the gutters |
| During leaf fall (among greenery) | Check gutters and between louvres more often |
| Before a storm | Leave the louvres to the sensor or set them to a safe position |
| Once a year | Service: pistons, rails, motor, belt, sensors |
| Regularly | Have the power lines and voltage checked; unstable voltage damages the electronic boards |
Don't
- Don't use pressure washers or abrasive cleaners on the louvres.
- Don't climb on or load the louvres.
- Don't force a stuck louvre; call for service.
