There is no single price per m² for guillotine glass; the width and height of the opening, the number of panels (2 or 3), the glass type (single tempered or insulated), the number of modules and installation conditions set it together. We explain each in turn.
Why there is no single price per m²
"Guillotine glass price per m²" is among the most searched questions. But in guillotine glass, every module has its own motor, belt or chain and side rails, so on a small opening the fixed costs weigh more per square metre.
What sets the price
| Item | Effect |
|---|---|
| Size (width × height) | Amount of glass and profile lengths |
| Number of panels | 2 or 3 glass panels; also sets the height of the open part |
| Glass type | 8–10 mm single tempered or 4+12+4 insulated glass |
| Number of modules | Several modules on wide façades, each with its own mechanism |
| Control | Button, remote; one remote for several modules |
| Installation | On an existing façade, pergola or winter garden; power supply |
Single or insulated glass?
For restaurant fronts used in summer and mid-season, single tempered glass can be enough. If you will use the balcony as a living room in winter, the insulated model is recommended. More in: does guillotine glass let the cold in?
Long-term cost
Guillotine glass is one of the most trouble-free glass systems: motor faults are almost never seen (below 5 per cent). Having the electrics checked and keeping the rails clean is enough. In cafés and restaurants, keeping the glass's path clear minimises service needs. More in: guillotine glass in cafés and restaurants.
