A zip screen is cleaned with a soft brush and lukewarm soapy water; pressure washers and bleach are not used. To measure, take readings at the top, middle and bottom of the opening and use the narrowest value. Here is what to do, and what not to do, for a long life.
How do you clean a zip screen?
- Lower the screen fully.
- Remove surface dust with a soft brush.
- Wipe with lukewarm, mildly soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge.
- Rinse with clean water.
- Leave it down (open) to dry completely; do not roll it up wet.
Don't
- Don't use a pressure washer; it can damage the fabric and the zip seam.
- Don't use bleach, solvents or abrasive cleaners.
- Don't try to machine-wash it; a zip screen is not designed to be removed and washed.
Rails and cassette
Dust and leaves inside the side rails should be cleared from time to time, especially for systems in gardens and by the sea, where wind carries sand and leaves.
How do you measure for a zip screen?
- Measure the width of the opening at the top, middle and bottom.
- Measure the height on the left, centre and right.
- Note the smallest values; walls and floors are never perfectly straight.
- Check the top surface for the cassette and the side surfaces for the rails.
- Decide where the power supply will come from.

For a long life
- Retract the screen in a storm or use a wind sensor.
- Don't leave the fabric rolled up wet for long.
- Don't place pots or furniture where they rub against the fabric.
